PORT WINE STAINS (PWS)

A port wine stain is a red or purple birthmark that may grow darker over time. These marks are caused by the formation of abnormal blood vessels in the skin. While it can appear anywhere on the body, it is commonly found on the face, neck, arms, legs, and scalp. In some cases, the skin affected by a port wine stain will become thicker and rougher in adulthood. These marks can distract from a person’s features and be detrimental to your self-image.
